In the dull musical climate of today Mangoo represents something truly unique and fresh. In their own private atmosphere of Rock awesomeness they are the ones orchestrating the weather, and the forecast is more than pleasant. Catchy hooks and sweet vocal harmonies backed by a wall of thick fuzzy guitars and hard hitting drums with an added sprinkling of analog synth sounds, combined they result in a truly unique sound. Stoner Rock, Psychedelia, Space Rock or maybe it’s just best described as Mangoo.
Hailing from Turku, Finland, Mangoo have been busting out the fuzz since 2005 when they released their untitled debut EP. Countless beers, headaches, shows and drummers later the first full-length, Neolithic (7:45 Records); was released in 2009, receiving nothing but excellent reviews and radio airtime. Relentless and successful touring in support of the album in their native Finland followed the next years.
Since then the line-up has remained unchanged with Pickles playing guitar and singing, Mattarn busting out more guitar riffs, Igor slaying on the bass, Teemu pounding away at the drums and Nicke playing keys and just generating weird noises. As a result the musical storm that they generate together sounds like nothing you ever heard before, and that is very rare these days.
2012 saw the release of the bands second full-length album and their Small Stone Records debut: Neverland. Like the debut it was recorded and produced by the band itself and displays growth to a more dynamic and even more varied sound. Neverland delivers the heavy, the mellow, the jams and the hooks. If you believe Benny Grotto, who mixed the album, it’s “a really cool band from Finland […] who sorta sound like a cross between QOTSA, Rush, Yes, and the Foo Fighters. It’s like, weird, proggy stoner rock, but with keyboards and gigantic pop hooks.”
Since the release of their second album Mangoo has once more been enjoying super great feedback from both the domestic press and international media. They have been touring in both Finland and Sweden in support of the album, along the sides of bands like label-mates Mother Of God (SWE) and also the critically acclaimed The Midnight Ghost Train (USA).
2013 saw the band embarking on their first European tour, together with fellow rockers Rescue Rangers (FRA) and Enos (UK). This crew of misfits delighted audiences in the UK, France, Italy, Switzerland, Germany and Belgium.
Now they have their sights set on the venues and festivals of Europe and USA.
Mangoo comes highly recommended for fans of EPIC Rock music.
